My wash day routine Since curly hair is extremely dry, it is best to avoid washing your hair every day. What works best for my hair, is to wash my hair once a week.My hair type is Type 3B/3C. At the end of the post, I will list all the products I use and where you can buy them. 1. Pre-poo Method: A pre-shampoo is a treatment consisting of a water-based conditioner, oil, or DIY blend that is applied to the hair before washing. Pre-poo treatments can sit on the hair anywhere from 20 minutes to overnight, depending on the hair's needs. I personally prefer to use oil for my pre-poo method, basically I do a scalp massage, make sure all my hair is covered in oil and focus on my ends, they tent to be the driest.I usually use coconut oil or switch to my mixture of oils. After applying my oils, I cover my hair with a plastic bag, and a head wrap and I let it stay overnight. 2. Washing : Shampoo and Conditioner The next day after doing the pre-poo method, I wash my hair with shampoo ( use warm water ) I use a scalp massaging shampoo brush. The benefits of using the brush is that the plastic bristles stimulate the cells within your scalp, increasing blood flow, which promotes hair growth and prevents hair loss and also the brush helps to clean your scalp properly. After this, I put conditioner in my hair, leave it in for few minutes before rinsing with cold water. 3. Deep Condition Treatment The is no week that goes by without treating my hair to a good deep conditioning treatment. I either use the treatments from the shops or I make my own DIY, all depends when I have time. For today's wash, after I rinse the condition out of the hair, I apply my deep treatment section by section, making sure every strand of my hair is covered in the treatment, I also like to give myself a scalp massage for few minutes. After that, I cover my hair in a plastic bag & wait for 1hour before rinsing the treatment out with cold water. 4. Apply products After rinsing the deep treatment, this is where I style my hair. I follow the LCO method, first apply leave in conditioner section by section, than cream, making sure every strand of my hair is covered in the cream and finally I apply a bit of oil to the hair. Once this is done, I turn my head down and starts crunching. What is scrunching ? It is the technique where you take your hair and crumple it with your hands. This adds texture and bounce to your hair, along with subtle curls. Once I am done scrunching I leave my hair to air dry and I am done washing. 5. Roll my hair ( Optional ) If I don't want to have my hair curly, I do a protective style which is rolling my hair. If i decide to roll my hair, the only different thing I do in my routine is that at STEP 4: I don't scrunch my hair. After I apply my leave-in conditioner, cream and oil I roll my hair in and let it air dry. I find this more convenient because my hair is easy to manage and I don't use heat to get this curls and its easier to do scalp massages during the week, my hair rolled in usually last 4-5 days, and after that I just style my hair in a bun while I wait for my next wash day. This are my results after I roll my hair Products I use & Where I buy Them :

HOW I RECOVERED MY DAMAGED HAIR I dyed my hair for the first time in 2012, It was a blonde ombre hair style and i kept it for two years. In 2014 I decided to dye ALL my hair blonde, in the process of dying my hair I noticed that my back hair felt really warm, and once I removed the foil paper, my hair was blonde, lightest blonde I have ever seen ( my hair burned ), I panicked and immediately went to buy a brown hair dye and dyed my hair brown, two dyes in one day and this was the results. I definitely loved this look and so did everyone, but my hair was extremely damaged. I've been straightening my hair almost every day since 2008, and I've been dying my hair since 2012. I noticed that my hair felt really " hard" , and some parts of my hair wouldn't curl at all. I started doing research, watching A LOT of natural hair you-tubers and this are the steps that I followed to recover my hair. STEPS TO RECOVER HAIR FROM HEAT & DYE DAMAGE : 1. Stop using direct heat on your hair. ( I only straighten my hair once a year) If you MUST use heat, use a good heat protectant. 2. Use sulphate free and silicon free products. ( you can find really cheap products that are good for your hair ) 3. Do a pre-poo method before you wash your hair ( I wash my hair once a week ) 4. ALWAYS DEEP CONDITION YOUR HAIR !!!! ( I do it once a week ) 5. And Protein Treatments monthly 6. Massage your scalp with oils ( I mixed oils together in a bottle & I use that all the time) 7. Wear your hair in Protective styling ( I roll my hair with rollers or wear my hair curly ) 8. Trim when needed ( because my hair was so damaged , I trimmed every single month) Don't hold hold onto damaged, dry, split ends, CUT IT, or else you wont be able to retain length. 9. Protect your hair at night. I use silk scarf and pillow cases. 10. Moisturized your hair every other day, especially your ends. ( I use hair cream every second day) 11. Drink lots of water and eat healthy. My hair journey 2014-2017 Healthy natural curly hair finally :) It was definitely worth it going natural, I love my hair like this. I never knew my curls where so defined and curly.
My next mission is now to RETAIN LENGTH and keep my hair HEALTHY . For any questions, comment below and I will respond ASAP. More blog posts coming soon. |
